Day 1 of Rachael's Week in a Day (Border Bonanza)

Well after watching and recording a number of Rachael's Week in a Day, my wife, kids and I decided to do the week. Today's choice was the Green Chili Sloppy Joses with Refried Bean Dip and Chips
The recipe was very good and very easy. I don't typically follow recipes to the T, and this one is no different. The only substitution that I made to the Sloppy Jose's ( I just substituted a pound of ground turkey for a pound of the ground pork) As for the Bean dip I did not seed the Jalapeno, so it was a bit spicy for the kids.

I was also encouraged that there are plenty of leftovers after a family of four, so lunch it set is set for tomorrow.

I also took the opportunity to start the prep for the Mexican Brisket and Biscuits. ( the only change to the recipe is that I will cook it in a crock pot instead of the oven.

New Year

Well I am not sure what this will be worth but I love to cook and create and  try new things as I am standing in front of my stove or thinking about the next thing that i am going to create in the smoker. I am not much for recipes (they are merely a guide for getting started) My goal with this is track the things that I have done well or just have not worked. I have two great assistants who like to prep with me but don't like to clean up after me. (but I don't like to do that either).

Tonight we are gonna make my wife's traditional new years fare of pork and saurkraut. It's yummy and she puts in caraway seeds that really help the flavor of the saurkraut.
